Welcome to the start of another great school year! We’re so excited to meet our new students and see all the familiar faces from last year. Thanks so much to everyone for your hard work at the cleaning bees and playground cleanup. Everything looks wonderful and ready for our preschoolers!
Just a reminder that we do go outside every day, so please send your child prepared for any kind of weather. Our playground can be muddy, so boots are often a good choice and as we head into fall jackets will become a necessity. Feel free to leave extra clothes on your child’s hook or cubby. The end of the day is also a great time to touch base with any of the teachers about any questions or concerns that come up.
Don’t miss our Meet & Greet picnic on Sunday, September 18th at Taughannock Park near the playground. Bring a dish to share; we’ll meet at 4:30 pm. and eat at 5:00. We’ll have our first parent committee meeting at the end of the month. We haven’t nailed down a date yet, but watch for info.
Don’t forget to bring in your family photo for our bulletin board, and scrapbook page for our preschool children. And remember to let me know if you have any special requests for parent helper days, just let me know ahead of time. I can be reached easily by email or phone. Feel free to call me at home – although my family is not great with messagesJ
If you haven’t signed up for a parent job yet, the list is on the parent info bulletin board above the TTh cubbies. We’re still looking for a couple of fundraising committee chairs to help schedule our fundraising events and keep the committee members on task. We also need a few people to organize our silent auction. Every family will be responsible for soliciting donations, but we need people to organize the donations and set up the day of the auction.
The MWF class will hike to the falls on Friday, September 30th (weather permitting). We’ll be looking for signs of fall. Anyone is welcome to join us for the hike – it’s a great fieldtrip to bring younger siblings on.
September Activities: Our themes for September will be friendship, learning school rules, colors & shapes, and autumn. We will start the month by reading a wonderful book, Friends by Helme Heine. We will spend some time talking about how to be a good friend and appropriate school behavior. We will make some cooperative murals for our classrooms, watercolor, play with shaving cream and figure out how old all our students are. Our next book will be Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberly. We’ll play some color and shape games, do patterning, color mixing, and make our own glue collage monster. We’ll end the month with the book When Autumn Comes by Robert Maas. We’ll make a fall floral sculpture, leaf collage, leaf rubbings and leaf patterning. We’ll hike to the falls this week too.
Terrific Two’s: Welcome to our Terrific Twos class. We are excited to get started with a full class of two girls and six boys. Our first week we are eager to make all children feel welcome and safe. Our goal is for all students to be excited about coming and having lots of FUN! To welcome all our children we will introduce them to our classroom with a scavenger hunt of familiar things in our classroom. We will also be searching for all the animals in our first book we are reading, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”. On our first day we will be making tote bags with ours hand prints to use throughout the year. In September we will also be reading, “I Like Me” and “Fresh Fall Leaves.” Our projects will themed on our books including making friend wreaths, face puppets and painting leaves. We are looking forward to welcoming your wonderful children to out Terrific Twos family!
The more we get together, together, together;
The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.
‘Cause your friends are my friends, and my friends are your friends.
The more we get together, the happier we’ll be!
