June 2012

It’s hard to believe we’re at the end of the school year already!  This year has flown by and the children have grown so much!  The younger children are enjoying their blossoming friendships and growing imaginations, while the five-year olds are ready for kindergarten!  Thanks so much to all our families for your hard work and involvement in TCNS.  We are so lucky to have such dedicated families willing to give their time and energy to improve the lives of all our children!

TCNS yearbooks are available.  Please look for the sign up or email me if you’d like one – the cost is $10.  It’s a great way to remember the preschool years.  We’ll be sending the order in this week!

As you can see by the calendar, June is a very busy month for us.  We have many, many summer birthdays to celebrate and some special end of the year events.  On Thursday, June 7th at 6:30 we’ll be having a dessert social at the elementary playground.   Bring a little dessert to share – and enjoy the company of our wonderful TCNS families.   There will be plenty, so come even if you can’t bring a dessert.

The last day of school will be Wednesday June 13th for MWF and Thursday June 14th for TTh.  We’ll be having a graduation ceremony on June 14th at 7 pm. for the children who will be going on to kindergarten in the fall.  We’ll be busy this month making graduation crowns and writing our biographies in preparation for the ceremony.

Fieldtrips:  We had some great trips last month.  We still haven’t heard about our visit to kindergarten, but hopefully we’ll know soon.  We’re also trying to schedule another short trip to a business in the village for the TTh class.

There are still openings for TCNS camp July 16-19!  Ask for a registration form if you’re interested.   We spend most of the time on the playground, with great outdoor crafts and activities.  Children who will be starting TCNS in the fall are also eligible to join camp.

June Activities:  Our themes for this short month will be reading and father’s day.  We’ll start off reading How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills.  This is a delightful story about a bird that teaches a dog to read.  We’ll make our own I Can book, bird collages, and talk about learning new things.  The last week of school we’ll read Just Me and My Dad by Mercer Mayer.  We’ll make our own fishing game, a watercolor night scene, and a special father’s day present.

Terrific Two’s:  It has been a terrific year with our Terrific Twos! It always amazes me how much our class has changed. We are sharing, using our words, taking turns, recognizing our names and even our friends names. We are recognizing and naming colors and shapes, building structures and towers. And, wow, we have become great listeners!

We will end our school year with two great books: Birds by Kevin Henkes and Summer by Alice Low. Our projects will include playdoh sculpture and lots beautiful birds. Our last day of school we plan a walking trip to Not My Dads for a special treat. Join us for the walk or just meet us there. Pick up will be at Not My Dads. This trip is weather permitting.

Thanks for a great year! Deva and I have enjoyed getting to know all your great kids.

Love is something if you give it away,

Give it away, give it away,

Love is something if you give it away,

You end up having more!
