March 2012

March 2013

Spring is coming….  March weather can be VERY unpredictable.  We’ll continue to go outside as much as possible, so please be sure to bring all appropriate clothing.   As the snow melts the playground becomes very muddy and boots and snow pants can help to keep clothing almost clean.  Remember, children love to get dirty!

Preschool classes will be having Special Person’s Night on Wednesday, March 5th and Thursday, March 6that 6:30 pm.  This is an opportunity for children to bring an adult to TCNS who might not be able to come during a normal school day.  Children can show their special person around the classrooms and we’ll enjoy a special project and snack.

We’ll be having a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 19th at 6:30 pm.   We’ll talk about the student assessment process, upcoming conferences and fieldtrips, plus spring fundraising plans.  We’ll also talk about some workshop ideas for future parent meetings.  If there’s anything else you’d like on bring up, please let us know.

We’re continuing our student assessments in all the classes in preparation for parent-teacher conferences at the end of the month.  We’re setting aside three days when there won’t be any classes, but you will have the chance for some uninterrupted time to meet with teachers and discuss your child’s progress. There will be no school during the conference days, March 27th– 29th.  Look for the conference sign-up sheet.  If another time would be more convenient to meet, please let us know.  We can easily conference most days after school or any other time.

We will begin registration for next fall later this month.  You will all receive registration forms for next year with time to pre-register before new families.  Open registration for new families will begin sometime later in April if you know any families who might be interested.  It’s time to start thinking about kindergarten!  If your child will be eligible to start kindergarten in the fall you should contact your elementary school office. Most school districts will be doing screening during the next few months.

March Activities:  This month we’ll be talking about the coming spring and changing weather.  We’ll graph the weather, watch for signs of spring, and play with mud.  This month we’ll be reading In Like a Lion Out Like a Lamb by Marion Bauer, Spring by Nuria Roca,  Green Eyes by A. Birnbaum, and  One Rainy Day by Christina Butler.  We’ll make puppets, and a spring collage, plus cut rainbows.  The last two days before conferences we’ll read Max’s Chocolate Chicken by Rosemary Wells with our favorite characters Max and Ruby.   This will give us a chance to decorate easter eggs.  We’ll also do a walking fieldtrip to visit Trumansburg Acupuncture on March 21st.

Terrific Twos:  Welcome March! In our Twos class we will be exploring with our senses in March. We will start the month with our ears and eyes and we listen and look for trains and what we pass on our ride through our book, The Train Ride by June Crebbin. We will continue to use our senses as we welcome spring with two books by Margaret Wise Brown, The Golden Egg and Home For a Bunny. We will be looking for signs of spring everywhere with all of our senses! We will be fingerpainting, working with easter grass and glue, cotton balls and a favorite, snipping with scissors. We will be tasting and smelling hard boiled eggs and everything we have at snack time. We will continue to sing Hokey Pokey, a favorite, and add Spring Is a Rainy Season to our circle time. There will not be school on Thursday March 28th, only conferences. Thank you

Spring is a rainy season,

Spring is a rainy season,

Spring is a rainy season,

When the flowers bloom!
