March 2014
It’s been quite an interesting winter – we’ve had more school cancellations and indoor play days than any other year that I can remember! At least we’ve had plenty of snow when we do get outside and hopefully we’ll have a nice sunny spring to look forward to.
TCNS will be having an Open House on Thursday, March 13th at 6 pm. Please pass the word along to any families who might be interested. Registration forms for next year will be in cubbies soon and should be returned before spring break to hold a spot for next year.
Hopefully everyone has seen the information about the fundraiser offered by Giving Ground Farm. As a special offer, the Farm will give a donation to TCNS for everyone who signs up for a share. Please pass this information along to any friends or family who might be interested. It’s a great opportunity for everyone!
We’re continuing our student assessments this month and we’ll be having parent-teacher conferences at the end of the month. We’re setting aside two days when there won’t be any classes, but you will have the chance for some uninterrupted time to meet with teachers and discuss your child’s progress. There will be no class during the conference days, March 27th and 28h. Watch for the sign-up sheet later in the month. If another time would be more convenient to meet, please let us know and we can schedule something more convenient.
Our first spring parent meeting will be on Tuesday, March 24th at 6 pm. We’ll have pizza again and talk about the assessment process and parent-teacher conferences.
It’s time to start thinking about kindergarten! If your child will be eligible to start kindergarten in the fall you should contact your elementary school office. Most school districts will be doing screening during the next few months.
Preschool Activities: this month we’ll be working on friendship, our similarities and differences, pets, and springtime. Ms. Amy will continue to do yoga with the children after snack – ask your child to show you some of the poses they’ve learned! We’ll start by reading Two Eyes, A Nose, and a Mouth by Roberta Intrator and We Are All Alike, We Are All Different by Cheltenham Elementary. We’ll trace our bodies, do a self-portrait and finger paint. Our next books will be Grumpy Cat by Britta Teckentrup, Katie Loves Kittens by John Hummelman, I Want a Dog by Helga Bansch and Aaaargh! Spider! By Lydia Monks. We’ll make puppets, dog biscuits, and spiders and have a pet shop in the dramatic play area. We’ll also talk about and graph what pet we have at home. We will take a trip to the dentist on the 12th.
Terrific Twos: “In like a lion, out like a lamb!” We hope! Welcome March. We will enjoy starting the month with a classic, A Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats. Then lead into, Snowmen At Night, by Carolyn Buehner. Next we will read Good Luck Bear, by Greg Foley. To finish the month we will end with Snow a Rabbit, Spring Rabbit by Il Sung Na. We will explore with our senses, looking for signs of spring and winter leaving us. We will enjoy finger painting and water colors. Our play doh will be blue and yellow, exploring with mixing to make green.
