September 2014
Welcome to the start of another great school year! We’re so excited to meet our new students and see all the familiar faces from last year. Thanks so much to everyone for your hard work at the cleaning bees and playground cleanup. Everything looks wonderful and ready for the children!
We do go outside every day, so please send your child prepared for any kind of weather. Our playground can be muddy, so boots are a good choice and as we head into fall jackets will become a necessity. Feel free to leave extra clothes on your child’s hook or cubby. Since we end our day outside, it’s often easiest to grab your child’s backpack and artwork and then come to the playground.
Remember that September tuition is due this week. And don’t forget our option to buy-out of your helper day by paying an extra $30. It’s a nice option for a busy month, or for the entire year – just let us know in advance. We can also usually meet special requests for helper days, just please let us know well ahead of time.
If you haven’t signed up for a parent job yet, the list is on the parent info bulletin board by the door. There are also some great articles about the importance of play. Don’t forget to bring in your family photo for our board.
The teachers will sometimes have time at the end of the day to check in with parents, but please feel free to call or email anytime with questions.
Dates to remember:
Sunday, September 21th : Meet and greet picnic at Taughannock Park near the playground from 4-6 pm. Please bring a dish to share and enjoy the company of other TCNS families.
Friday, September 26th scholastic book orders are due.
October 1st at 6:30 pm. will be our first parent meeting. Bring the kids, we’ll have pizza!
Preschool classes: this month we’ll be talking about how to be a good friend at school, learning about the classroom and exploring fall changes. We’ll be reading A Splendid Friend Indeed by Suzanne Bloom, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, Fox Makes Friends by Adam Relf, Fall Changes by When Autum Comes by Robert Maas, When the Leaf Blew In by Steve Metzger. We’ll explore colors and color mixing, play with shaving cream, do leaf rubbings, make sculptures and murals for the walls. We’ll have play dough and beading available at many times during the weeks. It’s going to be a busy month!
Terrific Twos: Welcome to The Terrific Twos! We are very excited to get the year started. We are starting September with familiar books and toys in our classroom. We focus our curriculum on getting to know each other and listening. In our first couple weeks we will read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. during our circle time. We will talk a lot about friends and manners. For many this is their first experience with sharing space and following directions outside the family. We will continue by welcoming fall with We Love Fall by Diane Muldrow and Fresh Fall Leaves by Betsy Franco.
The more we get together, together, together;
The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.
‘Cause your friends are my friends, and my friends are your friends.
The more we get together, the happier we’ll be!
